Hermit 03:38
Hermit I remember all the time we shared Riding on a smile you came tumblin down the stairs After takin hours findin what to wear It's funny how your style was to look like you don't care And I stay on On for you Always talkin bout those places we will go And tellin me we'll make it there Though we don't really know And somehow I believed you just because you told me so And I stay on On for you And it's funny how the people say that nothing ever lasts Cos I still know what I wanted And that's what I want to pass And I'm waitin on the radio to play my favorite song But it won't play Not anymore And I'll remember walkin in the cold And goin into record stores to look at what they sold And I'd steal ya anything you want And stick it in my coat And I stay on On for you And I'll remember bein in your room And listening to soundwaves sing the "Dark Side of the Moon" And no matter how many times we listened It never played to soon And I stay on On for you And it's funny how the people say that things will change in time Cos I still know what I wanted and I want you to be mine I wanna tell you that I love you more than I can really stand More than any other man could ...could I'm so on On for you I'm so on On for you I'm so on On for you I'm so on On for you Mmm for you For you

Roommate of a Friend of MIne I hate the traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge Dead in the backseat Waiting it out Listening to "something" Unload the bass and the amplifiers Barely make it to the stage because the doorman's got my I.D, oh A couple faces look familiar to me I see you walkin in your red coat lookin like an actress I asked around You're a roommate of a friend of mine I asked around You're a roommate of a friend of mine After a couple awkward stares from the stage I wanna meet you on the sidewalk and follow where you're goin We stand around and see our breath in the wind You're so lovely in the snow, I'll bet you're lovely in the summer time You walk ahead but you won't leave me behind It's plain and simple girl I'm gonna get to know you We share your wine from the bottle in the city lights I asked around you're a roommate of a friend of mine Oh the city lights inhale me now Oh the city lights inhale me now I hear the echo of a DJ down on Avenue A I chase the music cos I wanna see you dancing Still can't believe all the funny things I hear you say To those working men yelling dirty things to you It's getting late still I don't know you at all About to walk right into knowin you forever We share your wine from the bottle in the city lights I asked around you're a roommate of a friend of mine Oh the city lights inhale me now Oh the city lights inhale me now Oh the city lights inhale me now Oh the city lights Take me any night To the city To the city To the city To the city lights

Stay 03:31
Stay I was dreaming in the day I was absent out in space Or as I’d prefer to say I was wide awake In a clear and striking dream And as crazy as it seems Any other reality Could not compare Oh, stay you will Say you will And there’s nothing that I wouldn't do To hear you sayin Say you will stay And may you feel as complete in your life As I do when I’m near your side And may noone steal your pride away, away, away Cos I know there is no guarantee And youth it has no clarity And the world has no humanity But without heed I still believe Ain't no one stands a chance at stopping you girl I’ll follow you there each step of the way So, say you will Say you will And there’s nothing that I wouldn't do To hear you sayin Say you will stay Stay, stay, stay, stay A wild wind is clawing down the window A white fog is rising on the lake You’re gonna get stuck in the rain If you leave You’re gonna get stuck in the rainbows Sweet baby Say you will Say you will And there’s nothing that I wouldn't do To hear you sayin Say you will stay Stay, stay, stay, stay

Virgin Smile 04:37
Virgin Smile With a virgin smile You once captured me just for a while With a certain kind of need Melting through the corner of your eye Now don’t be afraid Don’t let life keep you only where it’s safe In time you’ll feel the change It’s easy, love will break, love will remain And to touch your skin I just don’t know where I would begin I know it’s clear to see I’m not worthy in comparison And my mortal hands Weakened by the praise in which I stand I’m tryin hard to keep my eyes Only at a quite glance But I know when I’m burning And baby I’m learning Baby I’m learning Paint me with your body Over and over Over and over With a virgin smile You once captured me just for a while With a certain kind of healing power Radiating miles and miles Now I’m exposed Intertwined in you ribbons and bows Tomorrow never knows nothing Arms and fingers legs and toes But I know when I’m burning And baby I’m learning Baby I’m learning Paint me with your body Only once I need to hear these words Sung in whispers With a virgin smile With a virgin smile With a virgin smile With a virgin smile With a virgin smile With a virgin smile

Hearts at War That's my angel sleepin now These broken walls and windows speak Of a time that we were both happy Wedding bells and fairy tales They won’t come true but I can’t help Dreaming that that kind of life’s for me So let’s pretend that we’re both young And don’t have all these questions Burning up inside of us Each time we say goodnight Cos if your hearts at war still I’ll adore you And have I mentioned Lean in close I swear that I Still love you and you’re mine What will it take to keep us alive? It only took a story book And the world it shook You spoke to me Why do we treat the ones we love so mean? Let us not speak falsely now Just take my hand and understand All these broken pieces we still need and let's pretend that we’re both young and don’t have all these questions Burning up inside of us each time we say goodnight Cos if your hearts at war still I’ll adore you And have I mentioned Lean in close I swear that I Still love you and you’re mine What will it take to keep us alive? What will it take to keep us alive?

Secret Emotion A light finally dawning Shadows lean into the sun Another garden is bled out Distant beating of a drum Through the door! High speed rolling of a train This never more leading me time and again Time and again On a path that dirtied up my shin Failing every place where we begin Through the door! High speed rolling of a train This never more leading me time and again Time and again Through the door! High speed rolling of a train This never more leading me time and again Time and again Yeah You got my secret emotion Secret emotion honey You got my secret emotion Secret emotion honey You got my secret emotion Secret emotion You got my secret emotion Secret emotion now Through the door! High speed rolling of a train This never more leading me time and again Time and again Through the door! High speed rolling of a train This never more leading me time and again This never more leading me time and again This never more leading me time and again This never more leading me time and again Secret emotion honey Secret emotion, secret emotion You got my secret emotion Secret emotion You got my secret emotion Secret emotion You got my secret emotion Secret emotion

She’s Gonna Be Happy You can't stop the days that pass No matter how you try If you don’t admit whats real She’ll never sympathize You could stay this confident but She’s much too cool to cry You’ve got something to lose You could fill a shelf with books You could make a million plans You could use up all the paint You could crush a thousand cans Don't tell her how you feel Your dreams are paralized You’ve got something to prove Cos she’s gonna be happy She’s gonna be somewhere She's gonna be smiling Back at somebody new She's gonna be dancing She’s gonna be healing She’s gonna be leaving If you don’t make your move When you learn to live within You better learn to live without It doesn't matter where you’ve been Or whatever it is you're all about Take it from someone who knows It’ll happen every time And your work is cut out for you Cos you could Make a scene with someone else Just watch her roll her eyes Make a joke at her expense Or even try just bein kind You’re as good as a mistake If ya don’t say what’s on your mine You’ve got something to lose buddy She’s gonna be happy She’s gonna be somewhere She's gonna be smiling Back at somebody new She's gonna be dancing She’s gonna be healing She’s gonna be leaving If you don’t make your move She’s gonna be happy She’s gonna be somewhere She's gonna be smiling Back at somebody new She's gonna be dancing She’s gonna be healing She’s gonna be leaving If you don’t make your move She’s gonna be happy She’s gonna be happy Mmm mmm She’s gonna be happy Yeah, alright She’s gonna be Gonna be loved She’s gonna be Gonna be loved (she’s gonna be happy) She’s gonna be Gonna be loved She’s gonna be Gonna be loved She’s gonna be happy

So Many Things First thing when you wake up What's on your mind? And if you can't sleep Do you leave on the light? And what is the brand of soap that you use? Do you wear pajamas Or sleep in the nude? Oh there’s so many things I’d like to know about you It could take a lifetime Oh there’s so many things I’d like to know about you And it could take a lifetime Like do you have fears that nobody knows? Do you use the ground or do you hang up your clothes? Does weather like this make you more sad or happy? Do you sing the ocean or do you sing the sea? Oh there’s so many things I’d like to know about you It could take a lifetime With so many things I’d like to know about you it could take a lifetime Sometimes the light just disappears Sometimes I try but can't make tears Sometimes it feels like a million years I’ve been betting it’ll get better Better Better There’s so many things I’d like to know about you And it could take a lifetime Oh, there’s so many things I’d like to know about you Well it could take a lifetime It could take a lifetime

about

When singer/songwriter Tom Moran makes reference to scenes like being stuck in traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge, he’s not trying to get you to imagine yourself in a romanticized version of the Big Apple. He's just a person trying to get home. And in the rare instances where famous landmarks appear on his full-length debut Roommate of a Friend of Mine, Moran strips away the glow of coolness that so often enshrouds them, making space for the kind of quiet introspection we rarely associate with the metropolitan grind. Roommate of a Friend of Mine is an album that very much points you back down to earth with songs that find their way to wherever you happen to be, to hit you where you live in every sense of the term. One can feel out of place—and learn how to find one’s place—anywhere. And it’s between those two poles of experience that a lifetime’s worth of highly relatable, almost beautifully mundane, interactions unfolds across the ten slice-of-life turns of rippling folk-pop the album showcases.
